 The
gîtes are a mere 500m from the
beaches of the
lake Sainte Croix and 4 kms from the
Gorges du
Verdon, a stunning canyon renowned
amongst nature lovers, canoeists and
hikers.
The
"Gîtes du Verdon" are situated in
Salles sur Verdon, a small village of 200
inhabitants that was entirely rebuilt
after the creation of the lake of Sainte
Croix in 1974, to replace the old town
that had been flooded.
Starting
in March/April, the population grows to
somewhat higher numbers that are
sufficient to maintain several
restaurants, pizzerias and
crèperie. All year long
there are a boulangerie, a butcher,
a grocery store, and several cafés.
The closest gas-station is located 10 kms
from the town
The
village has beautiful sandy beaches, and
is the starting point of an incomparable
network of trails that all lead to a
spectacular scenery.
